Dear Dakota,
My heart breaks for your friends. Thank you, and them, for trying to wrest some meaning from such a terrible situation. Here is a short poem my son once gave me, which could accompany your iris photo, and which seems to speak about your friends and about their son.
"This I learned from the shadow of a tree
That to and fro did sway against a wall,
Our shadow selves, our influence, may fall
Where we ourselves can never be."
What else can one say? Love, Mrs. W

Posted by An0n at February 26, 2006 01:14 PMOh Mrs. W -- thank you for the poem -- since I no longer can memorize anything, I shall copy it out, keep it at my bosom, and remember it each time I'm shooting a shadow (which is quite often). It's always lovely to know that you're out there in the mist. xo D
